Improving Your Focus During Mindful Meditation

December 12, 2018 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Improving Your Focus During Mindful MeditationOne of the most difficult parts of learning meditation is the misconception many have that meditation requires total and complete focus. While focus is important during mindful meditation sessions, placing too much focus on maintaining focus does the opposite of what you’re trying to do – rather than focusing, you’re stressing about not focusing enough. At Technalink, we love what mala beads do for improving meditative focus, but there are several different ways one can improve their meditation focus in a natural way.

One big mistake compassionate leaders make when first adopting mindful meditation is concentrating too hard on their focus, and in doing so, tense the muscles in their body. It’s a natural reaction when concentration is high, but it makes it virtually impossible to clear your mind and do what you’re intending to do. Instead of concentrating hard and tensing up, move your focus to releasing the tension in each of your body’s muscle systems. As you go through, you’ll begin feeling more relaxed and you’ll find that your mind comfortably drifts away.

Using your mala beads is another great way to shift your focus to your meditation in a natural way. With your mala beads in hand, assign your affirmation to each bead, and allow the beads to travel through your fingers as you repeat your affirmation with each new arrival. This is a highly recommended way to introduce mindful meditation as part of your compassionate leadership that’s simple for all skill levels.

Keeping your eyebrows slightly raised is a strange but very effective way to improve your mindful meditation focus. When we concentrate, a natural reaction we have is to furrow our brows, creating that small crease that shows we’re trying to focus. Lifting the eye and the brow without strain will ensure that we don’t revert back to holding on to this unnecessary tension.

Improving focus during mindful meditation should be a natural thing and not something that needs to feel strained or forced in some way. By clearing up this common misconception, you can open minds to the possibilities of meditation and better introduce the practice as part of your soulful leadership strategy. What you may find is that opening the mind to meditation opens it to innovation, creativity, and an authentic you that has every necessary skill to succeed.
