Women Entrepreneurs Have To Be Better

November 20, 2017 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Women Entrepreneurs Have To Be BetterFor anyone that is female, or a visible minority, there is one harsh lesson that is often learned if not in school, then once you enter the workforce. As someone that is on the margins of a white, male-dominated workforce, you have to, by necessity, be better than your peers in order to achieve parity and the same amount of respect, recognition, and pay. This may not feel fair, and to be honest, it isn’t, but that is the reality of the working life for many people in America.

But as a woman entrepreneur, it can also be hard sometimes, to maintain perspective, especially with what has been happening in the news recently. When even powerful, accomplished, famous and able women in Hollywood are coming forward with horror stories of sexual harassment and abuse at the hands of powerful men within that industry, it’s very easy to feel disappointment and despair, in addition to anger and fear. But again, as a woman entrepreneur, you have to be better, and in this one regard, it’s easier to do.

Draw From Experience

If you have ever been in a position where you felt you were being taken advantage of for sexual reasons, then you already know what a confusing, fearful, humiliating and profoundly negative experience any kind of sexual harassment can be. When it takes place in a workplace, which is supposed to be both a professional arena and a place where a person’s livelihood and ability to maintain financial independence is dependent, it becomes even more traumatic. Harassment by itself is bad enough, but to threaten a person’s financial situation is an order of magnitude worse.

With this type of news occurring both in business and even in politics, it is more important than ever for a woman entrepreneur to be better. To be understanding, to be compassionate, and, above all, to not create this kind of environment in her own business. An employee and other business partners have enough on their plate worrying about fulfilling their basic employment responsibilities. Living in fear of sexual harassment or abuse is not just illegal, but also one of the most hurtful things a person in a position power can do to someone that is dependent on that salary to survive.

Take All Lessons To Heart

Anyone that is already enjoying the lessons and consultations provided Technalink is well on the way to creating a style of leadership that is about mindfulness, wellness, and taking a more spiritual approach to business and entrepreneurship. Creating a safe environment at the workplace, where both men and women do not have to worry about careers jeopardized by non-compliance with unprovoked sexual demands is just one more key cornerstone of all the important concepts that Technalink seeks to share.

As a woman entrepreneur, you may be starting your own business for any number of reasons. You want to be your own boss. You want more control over how a business is run. You’ve seen the way other companies conduct themselves and you want to improve on what you’ve already experienced. Or maybe you’ve already had some negative experiences in your life and you want to make sure you that you create an environment where no woman will have to go through what you did.

Sexual harassment and abuse can happen in the workplace. But if you are now starting out on your own, this kind of thing doesn’t have to happen at your workplace. You can be better. You must be better. And, with the right approach, with empathy, compassion and mindfulness for yourself, your employees and your work practices, you will be better.
