According to the American Psychological Association, 48% of Americans say that stress puts a negative impact on their professional lives. That’s nearly half of the working population of the country, and what they’re saying is that stress blocks them from reaching their full potential at the one place they spend much or most of their time during every day. What is more alarming is that only 20% of these people say that they have an activity they can use to help to alleviate this stress and work towards a healthier work life. Breaking down these percentages, 28%, or more than a quarter, of American professionals have unchecked stress bringing them down every day.
Stress is not only harmful for your health, but for your productivity, your potential, and your creative process, all things that should be maintained for a healthy and happy life at work or at home. At Technalink, we believe in the power of meditation when it comes to stress relief, and it’s a simple practice that really can be done anywhere. Even during the busiest and most stressful of days, if you can have 5 minutes alone throughout any portion of the day, you can have effective and proven stress relief.
Workplace meditation is a quiet activity that takes away very little time in order to improve workplace productivity and mold you into a more compassionate leader. Spiritual entrepreneurship through meditation can help you to not only grow within yourself, but grow with the way you interact with and see others as well. A few ways to mindfully meditate simply throughout your busy day include:
- Take a water break – Taking a 5 minute break with a glass of water can be a great meditation opportunity. Take in how the water looks in the glass, how it feels in the mouth, and what it feels like when entering your body, and focus your mind on what it means to be a compassionate leader. This focus on soulful leadership and your body’s sensations can help to center you and bring you to a clearer head free from stress.
- Use positive thinking when interacting with team members – When interacting with team members, even during a difficult or stressful project, take time to think one positive thought about each team member you interact with. It could be something as simple as their positive demeanor, or something about a creative idea they’ve come up with, and it will bring positive peace to your mind and peace to the situation.
- Do an inner body scan – Stress doesn’t feel great, and while that’s something we know, it’s not something that we break down enough while in the moment. While stressed, scan your body from the inside, and take note of all of the sensations that you’re feeling. Relieve stress by communicating with yourself about these sensations, and willing your body into a calmer place.
