Building Stronger Relationships With Employees

January 9, 2017 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Building Stronger Relationships With EmployeesAs a business leader, it’s easy to get a bad reputation. After all, those who are in positions of management often have to be the ‘enforcers’ and ensure that everyone is turning in the kind of performance that is expected of them. However, while it’s vital that you ensure things are running properly, one benefit of being a compassionate leader is that you can build a stronger relationship with your employees.

Luckily, it isn’t that difficult to do, either. As long as you bear a few key points in mind, you can gain a better relationship and larger level of respect from all employees on your team. It’s just one facet of being a compassionate leader, but it’s an important one. Here are some tips to remember.

  • Don’t Lead with Fear – Respect is much different than fear, and you need to understand the difference. Here at Technalink, we’ve seen that when employees are afraid of their bosses or afraid for their jobs at every turn, it translates to reduced productivity, lower levels of loyalty, and an unwillingness to bond with leaders. Don’t intimidate or threaten – instead, use mutual respect to achieve a better working environment.
  • Show them You Care – There are plenty of ways to go about this. Whether you supply them with mala prayer beads to help them identify with their spiritual center or offer them discounts at the local gym, little things can matter in a big way. In fact, just talking and checking in on them regularly is often enough to help dramatically.
  • Dive Into Projects – Don’t assign projects and close your office door while everyone else works. Get out there with your team and work alongside them. Not only will you help them look at you with more respect, but you’ll start forging lasting connections with them that will translate to long term relationships in your company.
  • Listen And React – Listen to your employees and use the info they give you to affect positive change. A compassionate leader understands that listening to their team can be the key to moving a business towards greater things, and being able to do so is vital for ensuring the future of your business.

The bottom line is simple – forging a relationship with your employees will directly lead to bigger and better things for them, you, and your business. It facilitates stronger communication and can also help inspire everyone in the company to greater things. Don’t overlook the tips above – they could be the keys to a better future for your business.
