Meditation Through Inner And Outer Noise

December 19, 2016 by Alka Dhillon Leave a Comment

Meditation Through Inner And Outer Noise Meditation is a key part of being a compassionate leader and spiritual entrepreneur, but finding a quiet place isn’t always possible. So, do you really need quiet in regards to meditation? We at Technalink don’t think so. Whether you’re dealing with inner noise or outer noise, you can meditate successfully regardless of where you are or where your state of mind may be.

When it comes to outer noise, a common belief is that a quiet space is required for successful meditation, but this isn’t the case. If you’re able, you can use the noise around you to help to center yourself in your meditation, as you take in all of the sensations your body is experiencing. You’ll find that when you recognize the noise and come to peace with it, your mind will naturally travel to other sensations throughout your body, effectively drowning out the noise in the process. However, this isn’t the case for everyone, and if you cannot seem to focus your mind away from the sounds surrounding you, a pair of headphones or earbuds may help until you can allow your mind to travel organically away from the sound.

Inner noise can be a bit more difficult to meditate through when compared to outer noise. Inner noise is the chatter or din that may be occurring inside of your head, rather than outside of it, and it can be notoriously difficult to block out. A few ways to combat this inner noise are:

  • Exercise before meditation – Exercise can relieve stress and soothe this inner chatter all at once, and a brief period of exercise can really help to make your mind a quieter place for meditation.
  • Use mala beads – Mala beads or prayer beads can put your focus on the sound of your affirmations or mantras, and away from the various other noises that you may be dealing with inside.
  • Don’t fight the noise – With inner noise, fighting it will only cause it to grow louder, so accepting the noise can sometimes be the best way to silence it. Much like you would accept outer noise as part of the sensation your body is feeling, doing so with inner noise can have the same effect in helping your mind to travel away from it.
